Last night my mom's relief society did a self-defense night and I learned a lot and I wanted to pass it on. The guy who taught the class said the current statistic is there is a 100% chance of you being assaulted sometime in your life! That's crazy. Hopefully these tips will help you avoid an attack or get you out of one in case that becomes a reality.
*Always be aware of your surroundings. When you are walking to your car, home, etc. take three seconds to look around and make sure no one is watching you
*Don't be afraid to offend someone who is making you uncomfortable. If someone is asking you for money or encroaching on your personal space don't be afraid to ask them to stop. They will probably only become defensive if they were planning to attack.
*Your best defense is to run and make sure you run toward people. Don't run to your car or home and don't panic and run into a more dangerous place, i.e. a dark parking lot, a gulley, etc. And make sure you make lots of noise while you are running.
*If you do need to become violent to defend yourself here are the best places to target on your attacker: hit them in the temple, poke them in the eyes, punch them in the throat, stomp on the bridge of their foot, knee them in the groin, elbow them in the kidney, karate chop them in the side of the neck, elbow them in the chest and hit them in the nose
*NEVER, EVER LET THEM TRANSPORT YOU TO A SECOND LOCATION! Your chances of surviving a kidnapping are very slim so make sure you fight, fight, fight and don't ever let them get you in their car.
I hope these tips help. I'm of the opinion that if you put up any kind of fight an attacker will probably back off. Even if they have a weapon there is only a 15% chance they will use it if you run (specifically if they have a gun). Sadly these things happen every day so make sure you decide right now you will fight back if you are ever in this situation!
